Recreation Ground Project
Recreation Ground Redevelopment – Weeks 1 to 4 Project Update
Works at the Recreation Ground are now well underway, with strong progress made during the first three weeks of the redevelopment programme.
Week 1 – Site Setup and Groundworks
During the first week, the site was formally established, including the installation of safety fencing and welfare facilities. Initial groundworks commenced, with excavation works undertaken to prepare the site for new infrastructure. These early works ensured the project could progress safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans.
Week 2 – Foundations and Play Area Progress
In Week 2, construction activity intensified with further groundwork and preparation for structural elements. Foundations and footings began to take shape across the site.
At the playground, installation of new safety surfacing progressed significantly, bringing the upgraded play area close to completion.
Week 3 – Major Milestones Achieved
Week 3 marked several key milestones for the project. All concrete has now been poured into the structural footings, representing a major step forward and providing a solid base for the next phases of construction.
Work also continued on the new pump track, which is being constructed to a four-lane width. This design will allow the facility to accommodate future competitive use, while remaining suitable for everyday recreational use by the community.
The new safety surfacing in the playground has now been fully laid, and the playground has reopened for children and families to enjoy.
On Tuesday 10 December, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, former Mayor, and the Council’s project lead councillor, Cllr Patrick Lavelle, visited the site to view progress first-hand and receive an update on delivery of the scheme.
The Town Council would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation while works continue and looks forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
Week 4 – Frosty Mornings
Good progress continues on site this week, with the project reaching an important and visible milestone.
Brickwork on the new toilet block has now begun, bringing the structure above ground and clearly showing the form the new facilities will take.
Alongside this, the drainage pipes have been successfully installed, providing the essential underground infrastructure required to support the new toilets.
Works are progressing well and the project continues to take shape. Further updates and photographs will be shared as construction moves into the next stage.
