We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to as many users as possible. Here we have given our accessibility advice and our accessibility statement.

Using this website

This website is run by Great Dunmow Town Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• change colours, contrast levels and fonts
• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:

• keyboard activated ‘skip to main content’ takes the user to top links first rather than the title and content of the page
• we have no option to skip repeated text
• we have no top level headings on our homepage
• some image links contain no text

We are working to resolve these issues.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

We are committed to making our website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Issues with technology and non-accessible content

Some of our older PDFs don’t meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be marked up so they are accessible to a screen reader.

We have taken care to make sure our PDFs are not essential to providing our services.

We understand that the regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018, if they’re not essential to providing our services. However, if you need information in an alternative format, please contact us.

We have ensured that any new PDFs or Word documents we have published from 23 September 2019 onwards meet the accessibility standards.

Issues with interactive tools

We are aware that some internal applications and externally hosted systems do not comply with accessibility and usability standards.

We will work with our suppliers to improve the accessibility of these sites as much as possible.

Some parts of this site link to or use content provided by other websites and these are not always as accessible as our site. For example:
