WELCOME

Great Dunmow is an ancient market town in north-west Essex with an estimated population (2011) of 8,830. The Town Council consists of 18 members: 9 representing the North Ward and 9 for the South Ward.

Extensive public open spaces are administered by the Council, as well as the E.T. Foakes Memorial Hall, the Dourdan Pavilion and other buildings.

The Town Council actively defends, promotes and represents Great Dunmow – we are working hard to ensure the town motto of May Dunmow Prosper continues to be a reality in the future.

MAYOR’S MESSAGE

It is an absolute privilege to step into the role of Town Mayor and serve this incredible community. While I’ve lived here for just under two years, my family’s journey to Great Dunmow has been over 13 years in the making. Across four generations, we gradually moved out from London, drawn to the warmth, vibrancy and close-knit spirit of this town.

One of the things that makes Great Dunmow so special is its sense of community. There is something here for everyone — whether it’s the events that bring us together, the local businesses that keep our town thriving, or the wonderful green spaces that give us room to breathe.

I first became a councillor because I wanted to help preserve and improve our recreation areas. Our much-loved Doctors Pond is settling beautifully, with fresh planting around its edges.

Next year, we’ll be introducing fish and we’re working closely with the Environment Agency to ensure this is done carefully.

In addition, an exciting new playground project is underway, working on maintaining and improving our facilities for families and children to enjoy.

Great Dunmow Town Council is made up of a fantastic team — both councillors and staff — who work tirelessly to make a difference. But we can’t do it alone!

Your involvement can make a real impact, whether it’s responding to questionnaires, joining our working groups, or even stepping forward as a councillor.

As we move forward, I look forward to working together — listening, learning and celebrating all that makes Great Dunmow exceptional.

Let’s keep building something great, together.

Warm regards,
Cllr Carole Sullivan
Mayor of Great Dunmow
