Planning permission refused for a 60 house development east of Buttleys Lane, Dunmow.
Town Councillor Terry Moore and District Councillor/Dunmow Deputy Mayor Patrick Lavelle spoke against the planning application, UTT/19/2354/OP, presented to the Uttlesford District Council Planning Committee on Wednesday 9th September.
The Town Councils reasons for urging the committee to refuse permission were:
- The location of the development was in an area identified as not for development in the Neighbourhood Plan and would degrade the initial impression of Dunmow on the westerly approach to the town, giving an impression of urban sprawl.
- The development poses an ecological risk and harm to the setting of High Wood – a site of special scientific interest and an historic woodland.
- The development would increase congestion on the B1256, a road that is already heavily used.
- The development has poor walking and cycle access to Dunmow.
The Planning Committee considered the application in depth and then unanimously refused the application on the grounds of urban sprawl (S7:harm to the countryside).
The developer may choose to appeal this decision.
Dunmow Town Council will continue to work on behalf of our residents so that our views are put forward for developments that affect our town.
